Prediction & odds for the game: Manchester City (10/11) v Chelsea (31/10) – ST is backing the draw
When: Saturday, 8th May @ 5.30pm K.O
Where: Etihad Stadium
In a preview of this season’s Champions League final, Manchester City will aim to seal the title against Chelsea at the Etihad.
Manchester City
One trophy down, two to go for Manchester City. After winning the League Cup final, City are now just a few games away from completing the treble – so long as they can put the final stamp on their Premier League success and, as previously noted, beat Chelsea in the UCL final. The next few weeks are going to be full of drama and chaos in more ways than one but if there’s one man who can steady the ship, it’s Pep Guardiola.
City are riding a nice five-game win streak dating back to their FA Cup final defeat to Chelsea, but their most impressive win came against Paris Saint-Germain earlier this week. After coming from behind to win the first leg they seemed to be in cruise control in the second, overcoming early adversity before registering a comfortable 2-0 win.
Chelsea
Chelsea Football Club has been riding a phenomenal wave of momentum ever since Thomas Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard as manager. From cup competition success to being in full control of their Premier League destiny, this could prove to be the Blues’ best season in many years – so long as they can edge themselves over the finish line. It’s not an absolute guarantee they can, but they now definitively know they can beat just about anyone in Europe.
Chelsea, professional as ever, have kept looking as good as ever since knocking Manchester City out of the FA Cup. They may have slipped up against Brighton in a 0-0 draw but outside of that they beat West Ham, Fulham and then Real Madrid over two legs. Call us crazy, but we don’t think that’s a bad body of work over the course of a few weeks.
Conclusion
If this fixture was going to be tense before it’s going to be even worse this time around with both sides knowing the Champions League final is on the horizon. Chelsea know they’ll be in the top four by the end of the weekend barring a mathematical miracle and as such, we wouldn’t be surprised to see them set up in quite a conservative way. City will want to have their crowning moment but we expect both to keep their cards close to their chest before the final, leading to something of a stalemate.
Our official scoreline prediction is going to be a 0-0 draw, ensuring we stick to the under 2.5 goals bracket.
Verdict: Back the draw at odds of 5/2 and the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 8/11 (All odds are taken from bet365).
