Manchester United continue their preparations for the Europa League final with an intriguing clash against Fulham in the Premier League.
Manchester United
When a European final is on the horizon and your place in the top four is already secure, it’s easy to let your guard drop – which is precisely the position Manchester United fans find themselves in. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer knows that there’s a lot riding on him being able to get his first trophy win under his belt as United manager, meaning games such as these are actually going to resemble friendlies in the eyes of many.
After beating Aston Villa 3-1 and overcoming Roma to reach the Europa League final, United fell victim to some nasty fixture congestion in the form of defeats to Leicester and Liverpool across a 48-hour period.
Fulham
It’s time for Fulham to move on after yet another relegation from the Premier League with many already looking at what they may be able to achieve in the Championship next season. Of course, they’ll want to give as good of an account of themselves as they can in the next few games, but we can’t say we think it’s going to make much of a difference. They need to make changes during the summer transfer window and they have to be substantial.
A draw against Arsenal back in April was nice but outside of that, it’s not hard to see how Fulham were relegated based on their recent form. They were beaten by Aston Villa, Wolves, Chelsea, Burnley and Southampton, all since the start of March.
Conclusion
Fulham are down and out with preparations being underway for their return to the Championship. While they did make a handful of impressive adjustments to begin the season things have fallen off the edge of a cliff, and it’s hard to imagine United doing anything other than punishing them quite severely. We think it’s going to be a one-sided affair with the only question being how many the Red Devils will actually score.
Our official scoreline prediction is going to be 2-0 Manchester United, meaning we stick to the under 2.5 goals bracket. With that being said we don’t think the hosts are going to sit back on their lead and, instead, we think they’ll have a really high tempo right up until the last 10-15 minutes when they start to consider what changes they can make prior to a game of real importance – the big one against Villarreal in Gdansk.
Verdict: Back the home win at odds of 4/11 and the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 6/5 (All odds are taken from bet365).
