Prediction and odds for the game: Wolves (4/1) vs Manchester United (3/4)
We are backing the Manchester United win at odds of 3/4
When: Sunday, 29th August 2021, Kick-off 16:30
Where: Molineux Stadium
On Sunday afternoon, Wolves host Manchester United at Molineux in the Premier League, as the home team look for their first league win of the season.
Wolves
Bruno Lage has had a poor start to life as Wolves head coach. His team have lost both of their two league matches this season, going down 1-0 against Leicester and Tottenham. The poor recent Premier League form has continued from last season, as the team from the Midlands have now suffered five straight defeats in the English top-flight. Wolves have also scored just once in those five winless league matches. There was a small plus for Wolves in the shape of a 4-0 League Cup win over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
Wolves normally strong home form has slipped of late, as the home team head into this clash on the back of three defeats in their last four league games at Molineux. That run included a 2-1 loss against Sunday’s opponents.
The home side is still without several key players through injury in the shape of Jonny, Pedro Neto and Willy Boly. Youngster Fabio Silva may drop down to the substitutes bench, despite having produced a promising display against Forest last time out.
Manchester United
The Red Devils have hit the headlines in recent days after they agreed to re-sign club icon Cristiano Ronaldo from Italian giants Juventus. Even at 36 years of age, the Portuguese superstar could be a key figure for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team. Ronaldo won’t figure until after the international break.
United have made a mixed start to their Premier League campaign, having hammered Leeds 5-1 on the opening weekend before a 1-1 draw at Southampton last time out. The last result was an underwhelming one for the Red Devils, who will be hopeful of mounting a realistic challenge for the Premier League title this season.
The opening results did mean that Manchester United are unbeaten in their last four Premier League matches. However, on the flip-side, the visitors have also won just two of their last six matches in the English top-flight.
The visitors have been difficult to beat of late on their travels, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team are now unbeaten in their previous 27 away games.
United look set to once again be missing Marcus Rashford, Alex Telles and Scot McTominay. Veteran striker Edinson Cavani is also a fitness doubt. Young England prospect Mason Greenwood is expected to start up front.
Conclusion
Wolves showed some promise in the League Cup, but maybe not enough to get anything from this game. We can see the home side scoring, but ultimately ending the game winless. The two bets we are backing is both teams to score and the away win.
Our Picks: We are backing the away win at odds of 3/4 and/or both teams to score at odds of 4/5. (All odds are taken from Bet365)
