Prediction and odds for the game: Celtic (14/5) vs Bayer Leverkusen (10/11)
We are backing the away win
When: Thursday, 30th September 2021, Kick-off 20:00
Where: Celtic Park
On Thursday night, Celtic host Bayer Leverkusen at Celtic Park in Group G of the Europa League, in what promises to be a fascinating clash.
Celtic
The Hoops have experienced a highly inconsistent start to the new campaign all around, as they currently sit sixth-place in the SPL. The fact that they opened their Europa League group campaign by suffering a 4-3 defeat at Real Betis will come as little surprise to most observers. A 1-1 home draw with Dundee United last time out means that Ange Postecoglou’s team have now won just one of their previous four competitive games.
To make matters worse, the Glasgow giants don’t have the best recent record in the Europa League either, winning just four of their previous 11 matches in the competition. However, at least their games in the Europa League are high in entertainment, as ten of their last 11 matches has produced over 2.5 goals.
Celtic have a decent recent home record in the Europa League at least, as they have won their previous three games in the competition on home soil.
Bayer Leverkusen
Die Werkself have started the current campaign in fine form. Gerardo Seoane’s team are currently in second place in the Bundesliga, with only dominant force Bayern Munich above them in the table. The arrival of Seoane certainly seems to have brought the best out of some of Bayer’s attacking players.
One player who has shined this season is wunderkind Florian Wirtz. The 18-year-old attacking midfielder is maturing into a fine prospect. Not only has the youngster scored four times in the Bundesliga this season, but he also scored in Bayer’s 2-1 win over Ferencvaros in gameweek one of this competition.
The German outfit will be confident of making it out of the group and into the last-32 of the Europa League. Last season Bayer suffered a shock last-32 exit at the hands of Young Boys of Swiss. The team from Switzerland defeated the visitors home and away.
The defeats against Young Boys aside, Bayer have a decent recent record in this competition, as they have now won five of their last seven outings in the Europa League. However, their recent form on their travels in the competition has been inconsistent, as they have won just two of their previous five away games.
Conclusion
Celtic are not in great form this season and this is a tough game against a Leverkusen team high on confidence courtesy of their superb recent run of form. We are backing the away win in this clash. The visitors are a dangerous attacking team and should have too much quality for their hosts. The other tip is over 2.5 goals scored, simply because the visitors have been potent of late in front of goal.
Our Tips: We are backing the away win at odds of 10/11 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/6. (All bets are taken from Bet365).
