Prediction and odds for the game: Chelsea (2/9) vs Everton (12/1)

We are backing Chelsea half-time/full-time at odds of 4/5

When: Thursday 16 December 2021, Kick-off 19:45

Where: Stamford Bridge

On Thursday night, Chelsea will look to keep pace with the leading teams in the Premier League as they welcome beleaguered Everton to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea

The Blues form has dipped slightly from their ultra-consistent early-season displays in recent weeks. Thomas Tuchel’s team have still lost just one of their previous 15 matches in all competitions.

A last-gasp 3-2 win over Leeds at Stamford Bridge means that the Blues have won seven of their last ten matches in the Premier League. The win also saw Chelsea score at least two goals for the fourth time in five league outings.

The team from south west London’s slight dip in form has seen them drop to third place, five points behind league leaders Manchester City, although the hosts do have a game in hand on the reigning English champions.

Chelsea have not been that convincing on home soil of late in the Premier League. However, they are still unbeaten in their last five league outings at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues also have a stellar home record against Thursday night’s visitor’s as they are unbeaten in 28 home matches against the team from Merseyside.

Everton

The Toffees have seemed to have lurched from one crisis to another. The club’s supporters are currently unhappy with the way the club is run, with the team’s recent results reflecting their anger. A record of one win in their previous ten Premier League games illustrates just how poor the visitors have been in recent months. To make matters worse, the Toffees have lost seven of those matches on the poor run.

The recent slump has reportedly caused a split in the Toffees boardroom about the future of head coach Rafa Benitez. Reports suggest a few more bad results could end the tenure of the former Liverpool boss.

A full-scale injury crisis has certainly not helped the Merseysider’s chances of a return to form. Brazilian forward Richarlison, captain Seamus Coleman and winger Andros Townsend have joined the list of injured players. Yerry Mina, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Tom Davies and Allan are also expected to miss out, while Lucas Digne seems unlikely to feature after a reported row with Benitez. In short, Everton are short of players and low on morale and seem to be nosediving towards the relegation zone.

Conclusion

Chelsea are massive favourites to win this game, so the home win offers no value. Instead, we are backing Chelsea to be winning at half-time and full-time, as the visitors are in such poor shape. We are also backing over 2.5 goals, as Chelsea could inflict some serious damage on a fragile Toffees team.

Our Tips: We are backing Chelsea Half-time/full-time at odds of 4/5 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/6. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
