Prediction and odds for the game: Sevilla (6/4) vs Barcelona (19/10)
We are backing the home win
When: Tuesday 21 December 2021, Kick-off 20:30
Where: The Sanchez Pizjuan
On Tuesday night, Sevilla host Barcelona at the Sanchez Pizjuan, in what could be a massive game at the top of La Liga.
Sevilla
Julen Lopetegui’s team now look like they are now well in the race for the Spanish title after a good recent run of results and Real Madrid drawing 0-0 with Cadiz on Sunday night. The Andalusians are in second place in the table, just six points behind Los Blancos, but with a game in hand on the men from Madrid.
After some disappointing results in November, Sevilla have now won their last three matches in the Spanish top-flight. Last time out they recorded a 2-1 win over reigning champions Atletico Madrid.
One big factor in Sevilla’s lofty position in La Liga has been their recent home form. In fact, Los Rojiblancos are unbeaten in their previous ten league matches at the Sanchez Pizjuan, having recorded nine wins in the process.
Sevilla certainly found their shooting boots of late on home soil, as they have found the net at least twice in seven of their last eight home matches in the league.
Barcelona
The Catalan giants are experiencing an inconsistent recent run of form in the Spanish top-flight. In fact, the visitors have won just three of their last nine matches in La Liga. A 3-2 home win over Elche last time out ended a mini two-game winless run in the Spanish top-flight for Barcelona.
Their recent inconsistent form has seen Xavi’s team drop down to seventh place in La Liga, 16 points behind leaders Real Madrid and three points adrift of the Champions League spots in the Spanish top-flight.
Things have improved slightly since the appointment of club legend Xavi as head coach. However, the former Spain midfielder will need time to turn things around after the mess the club has got itself into in recent years.
One issue Xavi needs to address is his team’s recent away form, as they have won just one of their previous seven away games in La Liga. He has made a start as the visitors are unbeaten in their last three matches on their travels.
One positive for the Blaugrana is that they have lost just three of the last 33 meetings with Sevilla in all competitions.
Conclusion
We fancy Sevilla to win this one, as they are just so strong on home soil and seem to have built up a winning momentum once more in recent games. We are also backing over 2.5 goals scored. Recent meetings between these two teams have been relatively low-scoring in La Liga. However, we believe this could be a more open affair.
Our Tips: We are backing the home win at odds of 6/4 and/or over 2.5 goals at evens. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
