Prediction and odds for the game: Manchester United (4/11) vs Burnley (7/1)
We are backing under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 6/5
When: Thursday 30 December 2021, Kick-off 20:15
Where: Old Trafford
On Thursday night, Manchester United host Burnley at Old Trafford, as the home side look to revive their season and the visitors look for crucial points at the bottom of the table.
Manchester United
The Red Devils laboured to a 1-1 draw at relegation-threatened Newcastle last time out. The result does mean that United are unbeaten in their seven matches in all competitions since the departure of former head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Five of those seven unbeaten matches have been in the Premier League.
Despite the recent unbeaten run, the Red Devils have slipped to seventh place in the Premier League table, seven points outside the top-four spots. However, they do have two games in hand on Arsenal in fourth-place.
Their recent league matches have been tight and low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in four of their last five league matches.
United have recorded back-to-back home wins in the Premier League. However, a record of four wins in their previous 11 home matches in the league is a poor one.
Burnley
The Clarets head into this clash in trouble at the bottom of the Premier League. Sean Dyche’s team are currently in 18th place in the table, but just two points adrift of 17th place Watford, who have played two extra games than the north west outfit.
Due to circumstances beyond their control, Burnley have not played since 12th December, when they drew 0-0 with West Ham. The game was the Clarets fifth straight league game without a victory.
However, many of their recent matches in the Premier League have finished in draws, as five of their last seven league games have finished all square. The visitors have had trouble finding the net of late, as they have now failed to score in three Premier League games. The lack of goals in recent matches for Burnley may not be much of a surprise, as Dyche’s team are the third-lowest scorers in the English top-flight this season.
Burnley have failed to win in nine away games in the Premier League, dating back to last season. They have drawn three of their last four league matches on their travels though.
Conclusion
Manchester United certainly need to up their game from the performance they produced last time out. We do believe that Ralf Rangnick’s team will record a victory, but it could be a tight encounter. So, the two bets we are backing is under 2.5 goals scored and the home win, with the former offering slightly better odds.
Our Tips: We are backing under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 6/5 and the home win at odds of 4/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
