Prediction and odds for the game: Bayern Munich (1/4) vs Monchengladbach (9/1)
We are backing Thomas Muller to be anytime goalscorer at odds of 6/4
When: Friday 7 January 2022, Kick-off 19:30
Where: The Allianz Arena
On Friday night, Bundesliga leaders and reigning champions Bayern Munich will look to return after the winter break on a winning note as the Bavarians welcome Monchengladbach to the Allianz Arena.
Bayern Munich
The reigning German champions were in imperious form before the break, recording seven straight victories in all competitions. Julian Nagelsmann’s team also scored at least two goals in their last five games of 2021, last time out recording a 4-0 win over Wolfsburg at the Allianz Arena.
The Bavarians recent good form coupled with the inconsistency of second-place Dortmund has seen Bayern break nine points clear of Marco Rose’s team at the top of the table. It would take something truly special to happen in the second part of the season to stop the reigning champions from claiming their tenth domestic title.
As is usually the case with Bayern, they have been a formidable force on home soil of late, winning 11 of their last 12 league games at the Allianz Arena.
One obstacle for Bayern in this game could be a lack of personnel. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Bouna Sarr are at the African cup of nations. Meanwhile, Lucas Hernandez, Leroy Sane, Dayot Upamecano, Tanguy Nianzou, Manuel Neuer, Kingsley Coman, Corentin Tolisso and Omar Richards have all recently tested positive for Covid-19, so could miss out.
Monchengladbach
The Foals have not made the ideal start to life to life under new boss Adi Hutter. In fact, Gladbach head into this game just two points clear of the relegation play-off spot and three points clear of the automatic relegation berths.
The visitors recent Bundesliga form has been woeful and has contributed to the Foals worrying drop towards the danger zone in the German top-flight. A 1-1 draw against Hoffenheim in their final match of 2021 at least ended a four-game losing run in the Bundesliga for Hutter’s team. The draw also ended a terrible defensive run, as they had conceded at least two goals in each of the previous four league matches.
The visitors have been poor on their travels, as the Foals have won just one of their last nine away games in the Bundesliga, having suffered six defeats and picked up just two draws in the process.
Like the hosts, the visitors have problems of their own, as Mamadou Doucoure, Keanan Bennetts, Joe Scally and Denis Zakaria have all recently tested positive for Covid-19.
Conclusion
Even with the potential of numerous key players missing for the home team, it is difficult not to fancy a home win. The home victory offers no value, so instead we are taking a punt on draw/Bayern in the half-time/full-time market. The other bet we are backing is Thomas Muller to be an anytime goalscorer, as he looked dangerous in his last appearance for the Bavarians.
Our Tips: We are backing Thomas Muller to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 6/4 and/or draw/Bayern at odds of 10/3. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
