Prediction and odds for the game: Brighton (15/4) vs Chelsea (8/11)
We are backing Mason Mount anytime goalscorer at odds of 6/4
When: Tuesday 18 January 2022, Kick-off 20:00
Where: The Amex Stadium
On Tuesday night, Brighton host Chelsea at the Amex Stadium in the Premier League, as the visitors look to claw back leaders Manchester City’s lead at the top of the table.
Brighton
Seagulls head coach Graham Potter has reportedly committed his future to the south coast club after reports suggesting that he could be the next Everton head coach.
The Seagulls are in a strong position in the table, so the decision would likely be a sensible one considering the current malaise at the Merseyside giants.
Potter’s team heads into this contest on the back of a five-game unbeaten run in all competitions. However, last time they were held to a 1-1 draw at home against Crystal Palace. The draw means that Brighton are unbeaten in four games in the Premier League too. A record of just two top-flight wins in ten outings is not a great one though.
The Seagulls have also won just one of their previous seven home matches in the Premier League. Their previous five league games on home soil have all produced under 2.5 goals.
Chelsea
The Blues suffered a 1-0 defeat at reigning champions and league leaders Manchester City last time out. The loss saw Thomas Tuchel’s team fall 13 points behind the Citizens in the race for the English title. It now seems that winning the Premier League title is out of reach after some inconsistent recent form.
The defeat at City means that Chelsea have won just one of their last six games in the English top-flight. However, the loss also ended a six-game unbeaten run in the Premier League. Too many draws have been the Blues main problem of late, as they have drawn four of their last six league games.
Another factor in Chelsea’s recent inconsistent form has been a lack of clean sheets. Tuchel’s team were strong in defence when he was first appointed. However, the Blues have now kept just one clean sheet in their previous ten league games.
Chelsea’s away form has dipped slightly of late in the English top-flight, as the visitors have won just one of their last four league matches on their travels. Before they visited Manchester City, the Blues recent away games in the top-flight had been high-scoring. In fact, there have been over 2.5 goals scored in five of their previous seven league matches.
Conclusion
The defeat at Manchester City last time out seems to be a fatal blow to the Citizens title bid this season. However, Thomas Tuchel is not the sort of coach to let his players become complacent.
We believe this could be a close game. The first bet we are backing is for both teams to score, as both teams have struggled in defence of late. The other recommendation we make is to back Mason Mount to be an anytime goalscorer. The England international only made a cameo against City, so should be fresh for this encounter.
Our Tips: We are backing Mason Mount to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 6/4 and/or both teams to score at odds of 19/20. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
