Prediction and odds for the game: Millwall (13/10) vs Preston (9/4)
We are backing the home win
When: Tuesday 1 February 2022, Kick-off 19:45
Where: The Den
On Tuesday night, Millwall and Preston go head-to-head at the Den in a midtable battle in the Championship.
Millwall
The Lions are currently in 15th place in the Championship table, nine points from the top of the English second-tier table. However, Gary Rowett’s team has a game in hand on many of the teams in the top-six. A decent run of form could well put the home team right back into the play-off picture.
Unfortunately for Rowett and his team, their recent results have been poor in the Championship. A 2-0 home win over West Brom last time out at least ended a three-game losing streak for the Lions in the second tier. The result against the Baggies did continue a low-scoring trend for Millwall’s games of late in the second tier, as it was the fourth game of the last five to produce under 2.5 goals.
Millwall’s recent home record has been slightly inconsistent. However, they have suffered just one defeat in their last seven Championship games at the Den. Like their recent league games in general, the Lions latest home matches have been low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in four of their last five games.
Preston
North End are just a point and two places above their hosts in the Championship table. Having played a game more than the team from the capital it seems it will be difficult for the north west outfit to make the play-off positions this season.
Like the home team, Preston have not been in the greatest form in the Championship of late. In fact, Ryan Lowe’s team has won just one of their last five matches in the English second tier. A 2-2 home draw with Bristol City last time out was their third draw in five games in the Championship.
The visitors have been relatively prolific of late in the second tier, having scored at least two goals in three of their previous four matches in the Championship.
Preston’s recent away form in the second tier has been highly inconsistent, as they have won four and lost five of their previous nine away matches in the Championship. They have also kept just one clean sheet in that nine-game run of away matches.
Conclusion
Neither team are in sparkling form. However, Millwall tend to be relatively strong at the Den, while Preston are unpredictable on their travels. We are backing the Lions to record a narrow victory. The other bet is under 2.5 goals scored, as Millwall’s recent games have been low-scoring, as have Preston’s recent matches on their travels.
Our Tips: We are backing the home win at odds of 13/10 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 8/13. (All odds are taken from Bet365)
