On Saturday evening, Manchester City will look to move a step closer to retaining their Premier League crown as the Citizens welcome Tottenham to the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola’s team seem to have really hit their stride of late. The Citizens followed up a 4-0 win at Norwich in the Premier League with a 5-0 hammering of Sporting Club in Portugal in the first leg of the last-16 of the Champions League in midweek.

The win in the Portuguese capital means that the men from Manchester are now unbeaten in their last 13 matches in all competitions, having recorded 12 wins in the process. It was also their fourth straight competitive win.

The recent wins have shown how effective the English champions are at both ends of the field, as they have now scored at least two goals in all four of their recent wins. However, at the other end of the pitch, they have also kept three straight clean sheets.

City head into this weekend’s action nine points clear of second-placed Liverpool in the English top-flight table, although Jurgen Klopp’s team does have a game in hand on their title rivals.

Tottenham

The visitor’s form has turned for the worse of late, as Antonio Conte’s team are currently on a run of three straight league defeats in the English top-flight. A 2-0 home defeat against rivals for a European place Wolves last time out was also the third straight game in which Spurs have conceded at least two goals.

Their recent poor form in the English top-flight has seen the team from north London drop to eighth-place in the standings, seven points adrift of fourth-place Manchester United. Conte’s team does still have a game in hand on the Red Devils, but it will still be difficult for the visitors to make up ground, especially with some of their rivals facing far less formidable opponents this weekend.

Tottenham’s away form has been slightly inconsistent this season. However, a 2-0 defeat at Chelsea in their last away game ended a four-game run without an away loss in the Premier League.

Spurs’ recent away games have been close, low-scoring encounters, as five of their previous six league matches on the road have produced under 2.5 goals.

Conclusion

Tottenham have caused Manchester City problems in the past. However, City have won six of their last seven home matches against Spurs in the English top-flight. We expect City to record another relatively comfortable win in this clash. The home win offers little value though.
