We are backing the draw at odds of 14/5
When: Wednesday 9 March 2022, Kick-off 20:00
Where: The Santiago Bernabeu
On Wednesday night, two European football giants clash, as Real Madrid welcomes PSG to the Bernabeu for the Champions League last-16 second leg. The first leg ended 1-0 to PSG after a late moment of magic from reported-Real Madrid target Kylian Mbappe.
Real Madrid
The Spanish giants look to be in control of La Liga’s title race, as Carlo Ancelotti’s team is now eight points clear at the top of the table. Their title rivals have floundered in recent weeks, which gives Los Blancos some breathing space at the top of the table.
The men from Madrid are looking to challenge on all fronts this season, with winning the Champions League one of the club’s main priorities. However, they could not have asked for tougher opponents in one of the competition’s other favourites, PSG.
Real Madrid will be confident that they can turn around the first-leg deficit and seal their place in the quarter-finals of the competition. The first leg defeat ended a four-game winning run in Europe’s elite competition for the Spanish giants, so they were in form before the loss.
PSG
Like their Spanish opponents, PSG are in control of the domestic title race. The Parisians have longed to win the Champions League crown since the current owners arrived. This season may just be their golden opportunity to become European champions. The first leg win has put them in a strong position to make it to the last eight of the competition for sure.
However, Mauricio Pochettino’s team heads into this crucial second leg on the back of their worst run of league form of the season after two defeats in their last three Ligue One outings. Last time out they suffered a 1-0 defeat against Nice.
A decent recent record in the Champions League will certainly offer the French giants real hope of qualifying for the quarter-finals, as they have lost just one of their previous five games in Europe’s elite competition, recording three wins in the process.
One negative for the French giants of late in the Champions League has been their away form, as PSG have failed to win any of their last four matches on their travels in Europe.
A positive for the team from the French capital is that they are unbeaten in three games against Real Madrid, having won twice.
Conclusion
This tie was always going to be a difficult one to call, as they are two of European football’s best teams. The first leg was a close affair and we are backing the second instalment to follow a similar trend. We are backing the game to finish in a draw and for the game to produce under 2.5 goals, as it could well be another nervy and tight affair.
Our Tips: We are backing the draw at odds of 14/5 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 11/10. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
