Prediction and odds for the game: Sevilla (21/20) vs West Ham (3/1)
We are backing the draw at odds of 9/4
When: Thursday 10 March 2022, Kick-off 17:45
Where: The Sanchez Pizjuan
On Thursday evening, Sevilla and West Ham go head-to-head at the Sanchez Pizjuan in the first leg of the last-16 of the Europa League.
Sevilla
The Andalusians are enjoying a strong campaign, as Julen Lopetegui’s team are currently second-place in La Liga, the closest team to league leaders Real Madrid. However, Los Nervionenses are eight points adrift of Carlo Ancelotti’s team.
While Sevilla’s league form has been one of their strengths, the Andalusian’s low point of the campaign had to be suffering elimination from the Champions League at the group stages, in what looked like a very open group.
However, Sevilla have become Europa League experts in recent seasons. In fact, the Spanish side has now won the competition on six occasions, which makes the Andalusians the most successful team in the history of the competition.
Before this season, Sevilla last featured in the competition back in 2020, when they won the competition by recording a 3-2 win in the final against Italian giants Inter.
Sevilla recorded an aggregate 3-2 win over Dinamo Zagreb in the last-32 of this season’s competition. A 1-0 second-leg defeat in Croatia ended a five-game winning run for the Andalusians.
West Ham
Like their opponents, West Ham are enjoying a strong campaign in their domestic league. David Moyes’ team is currently sixth-place in the Premier League table, just three points off the Champions League spots.
Despite their relatively lofty position in the English top-flight table, the Hammers have won just one of their last five matches in all competitions. In fact, they have suffered two straight defeats against Southampton and Liverpool.
The Irons recent matches have been low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in three of their last four competitive games.
Moyes’ team have a strong recent record in the Europa League, winning four of their last six European games. A 1-0 home defeat in their last match in the Europa League ended a five-game unbeaten run in the competition.
The Hammers have also been prolific in the competition, scoring at least two goals in five of their last six matches in the Europa League.
West Ham are unbeaten in their last four away matches in European football’s secondary competition, having recorded two wins and picked up two draws.
Conclusion
This should be a tight clash between two very good teams. We are backing this one to finish in a draw. The other bet we are backing is under 2.5 goals scored, as both team’s recent games have been low-scoring and the pair could approach this first leg in a relatively cautious manner.
Our Tips: We are backing the draw at odds of 9/4 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 10/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365)
