Prediction and odds for the game: Manchester United (6/5) vs Atletico Madrid (13/5)
We are backing the draw at odds of 21/10
When: Tuesday 15 March 2022, Kick-off 20:00
Where: Old Trafford
On Tuesday night, Manchester United and Atletico Madrid go head-to-head at Old Trafford in the Champions League last-16 second leg. The first leg in the Spanish capital finished 1-1, so it’s all to play for in Manchester.
Manchester United
The Red Devils ended a recent three-game winless streak in all competitions by recording a 3-2 home win over Tottenham to boost their top-four chances. They are now fifth-place in the Premier League table and a point adrift of fourth-place Arsenal. However, the Gunners have three games in hand.
Ralf Rangnick’s team has a decent recent record in the Champions League, as they are unbeaten in their previous six matches in European football’s elite competition. However, the draw in the first leg of this tie means that three of their previous four European matches have finished in draws.
United have also won four of their last six Champions League games on home soil while suffering just one defeat in the process.
Atletico Madrid
The reigning Spanish champions are enjoying an underwhelming campaign compared to last season. Like their opponents, Diego Simeone’s team have been well off the pace in the domestic title race and are now in the fight to secure a return to the Champions League for next season.
Los Colchoneros have been in decent form of late, though, as the visitors are unbeaten in their last five matches in all competitions. In fact, the first leg draw was the only game in the unbeaten run in which they have not claimed a victory. Last time out, Atletico recorded a 2-1 home win over Cadiz.
The men from Madrid really have struggled for positive results of late in the Champions League. A record of just two wins in their last nine matches in the competition is a poor one for sure. The first leg draw also means that Atleti have now won just once in five Champions League outings.
Atletico Madrid’s recent away record in the Champions League can only be described as inconsistent, as the visitors have won three and lost two of their last five outings in the Spanish top-flight. They have also struggled for clean sheets on their travels in European football’s elite competition, keeping just one clean sheet in their last 11 away matches.
Conclusion
This is a tough one to call, as United have a decent home record in the Champions League of late. However, Atletico seems to have found a touch of form in recent weeks, so we are backing this game to finish all square over 90 minutes.
We also believe that this could be a tight encounter resulting in a low-scoring encounter. Therefore, we are also backing under 2.5 goals scored.
Our Tips: We are backing the draw at odds of 21/10 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 8/13. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
