Prediction and odds for the game: Liverpool (1/8) vs Watford (22/1)
We are backing under 3.5 goals scored at evens
When: Saturday 2 April 2022, Kick-off 12:30
Where: Anfield
In the Premier League’s early kick-off on Saturday, Liverpool host Watford at Anfield in a vital match at both ends of the table.
Liverpool
Jurgen Klopp’s team has done an exceptional job at making up ground on league leaders and reigning champions Manchester City at the top of the table. The Reds are now just a point adrift of the Citizens.
Liverpool have been in relentless form of late, as the men from Merseyside head into this game on the back of a nine-game winning run in the Premier League.
While the Reds have been characteristically impressive in attack, it’s their defensive record of late that has been a standout factor in their consistency in recent months. Klopp’s team has conceded just two goals in their last nine league matches, keeping seven clean sheets in the process.
Liverpool have also turned Anfield into a formidable place for visiting teams to visit, as the Reds are now unbeaten in 18 home matches in the Premier League. They have also recorded nine straight home wins in the English top-flight.
Watford
While their opponents are in the title race, Watford are looking to just preserve their Premier League status this season. The Hornets are three points behind Everton, who occupy 17th place in the English top-flight table. However, Roy Hodgson’s team has played two more games than Frank Lampard’s men and have an inferior goal difference to the Toffees.
There is hope for Watford though, as last time out, they ended a four-game winless run by recording a 2-1 win at Southampton. The victory was only the visitor’s second in 18 Premier League matches and their sixth league win of a difficult campaign.
Of course, veteran Watford head coach Roy Hodgson knows Liverpool well, having endured a rather unsuccessful stint as Red’s boss earlier in his career.
Hodgson will be hoping his team can pull off a giant shock at Anfield. However, their away record has not been great, as the Hornets have won just two of their last ten games on their travels in the Premier League. On the flip-side, four of the Hornets’ six league wins this season have been away from home, so they have generally performed better on their travels.
Conclusion
There is no doubt that Liverpool are major favourites to win this clash. Klopp’s team’s recent form suggests that they are very unlikely to slip up in this game. If they did it would be one of the biggest shocks of the Premier League campaign so far.
For our tips, we are turning to the goals market. The first tip we are backing is under 3.5 goals at evens. The reason for this is that Liverpool have scored over three goals just once in their last seven home league matches. With a Champions League game on the horizon, the Reds may take their foot off the gas if they establish a decent lead.
The other bet we fancy is Luis Diaz to be an anytime goalscorer. The Colombian international has settled in well at the club and is a constant attacking threat.
Our Tips: We are backing under 3.5 goals scored at evens and/or Luis Diaz to be anytime goalscorer at odds of 10/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
