Prediction and odds for the game: Atletico Madrid (15/4) vs Manchester City (4/5)
We are backing the draw at odds of 5/2
When: Wednesday 13 April 2022, Kick-off 20:00
Where: The Wanda Metropolitano
On Wednesday night, Atletico Madrid hosts Manchester City at the Wanda Metropolitano, in what promises to be a fascinating Champions League quarter-final second leg.
Atletico Madrid
Diego Simeone’s team look to have an uphill struggle to get back in this tie after a 1-0 defeat in the first leg at the Etihad Stadium. However, with just a one-goal deficit, Los Colchoneros will feel like they are still alive in the tie.
Atletico didn’t have the best preparation for the game, as they went down to a 1-0 defeat at Mallorca. The result hampered their chances of sealing a top-four finish in the Spanish top-flight this season.
The Spaniard’s recent record in the Champions League is not great either, as they have won just two of their last seven games in Europe’s elite competition. Their most recent European matches have been low-scoring affairs, with under 2.5 goals scored in five of their last six games.
Maybe somewhat surprisingly, Atletico has failed to win any of their last seven home matches in the Champions League, while failing to score in four of the games.
Manchester City
The Citizens drew 2-2 with main title rivals, Liverpool, last time out but may be slightly disappointed with the result, as they edged the game and saw a second-half Raheem Sterling goal ruled out for a very tight offside call. The draw stretched Manchester City’s unbeaten run in all competitions to nine games, six of which Pep Guardiola’s team has won.
What may not come as much of a surprise is the fact that City head into this game on the back of five wins in their last seven Champions League games, having suffered one defeat.
While many consider City a superb attacking team, they have also impressed in defence in recent European games, keeping three straight clean sheets in the Champions League.
The visitors have also won five of their last seven away games in Europe’s elite competition. City’s recent away games in the Champions League have virtually guaranteed goals, as there have been over 2.5 goals scored in five of their last six European games on their travels.
Conclusion
Atletico Madrid needs to score to progress from this tie but are unlikely to deviate too much from their usual style of play. Manchester City is also unlikely to change their style much and will look to dominate the game. We believe that these two teams will cancel each other out, resulting in a low-scoring draw.
Our Tips: we are backing the draw at odds of 15/4 and/or under 2.5 goals at odds of 4/5. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
