Prediction and odds for the game: Barcelona (2/5) vs Eintracht Frankfurt (7/1)
We are backing Barcelona to win and both teams to score at odds of 6/4
When: Thursday 14 April 2022, Kick-off 20:00
Where: The Nou Camp
On Thursday night, Barcelona and Eintracht Frankfurt go head-to-head at the Nou Camp in the Europa League quarter-finals second leg. The tie is well balanced at 1-1 from the first leg in Germany, but the home team are favourites to progress to the last four.
Barcelona
The Blaugrana continued their recent good form last time out by recording a last-gasp 3-2 win over Levante, courtesy of a super-sub Luuk de Jong goal. The victory means that Xavi’s team are unbeaten over 90 minutes in 23 matches. The draw in the first leg of this tie was the only time that Barcelona have not won in their last six games in all competitions.
This season, the Catalan giants are unbeaten in the Europa League in their five matches since dropping drop from the Champions League. In fact, their last defeat in this competition was way back in 2004 when they lost 1-0 at Celtic. However, before this season that 2003-2004 campaign was the last time Barcelona featured in this competition.
Eintracht Frankfurt
The Eagles have endured something of a rollercoaster campaign this season. Oliver Glasner’s team looks unlikely to claim a European spot in the Bundesliga this season. The visitors head into this game on the back of five games without a victory in all competitions too.
However, on the flip-side, a weekend 2-1 home loss against Freiburg ended a run of seven games without defeat, although their previous four matches had all ended in draws, so they were not in brilliant form.
When it comes to the Europa League, Eintracht Frankfurt has far more recent competition experience than Thursday’s opponents. Glasner’s team heads into this clash nine matches unbeaten in the Europa League. However, there is a caveat to that recent record in that they have drawn four of their last five games in the competition.
One thing that you usually get from Frankfurt’s European games is goals, as both teams have scored in the Eagles last seven games in the Europa League.
The visitors are unbeaten in their last four away games in this competition, having recorded three wins in the process. A visit to the Nou Camp will certainly be a stern test of the Eagles recent stellar away record.
Conclusion
Barcelona only just scraped past Levante at the weekend, but that was maybe because Xavi rotated his squad slightly in the clash. Frankfurt’s defeat against Freiburg won’t help their confidence heading into this clash.
We are backing a different bet for this game, in that we are backing Barcelona to win and both teams to score, which offers decent odds. The other bet we are backing is over 2.5 goals scored, with the main reason being that Barcelona has been highly dangerous of late in attack and Frankfurt has not been watertight in defence.
Our Tips: We are backing Barcelona to win and both teams to score at odds of 6/4 and/or over 2.5 goals at odds of 4/7. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
