When: Tuesday 19 April 2022, Kick-off 20:00
Where: Anfield
On Tuesday night, old foes Liverpool and Manchester United meet at Anfield in a crucial Premier League clash for both teams.
Liverpool
Jurgen Klopp’s team heads into this clash on the back of a brilliant recent run of form. Last time out, the Reds recorded a 3-2 victory over title rivals Manchester City in the semi-finals of the FA Cup. Although City started the game without several of their star players, it was still a highly creditable victory.
The win means that the Reds are now unbeaten in eight games in all competitions, having recorded six wins in the process.
The men from Merseyside have also remained prolific in front of goal, as they have now scored at least two goals in their last five matches in all competitions. That prolific form has kept the Merseysiders just a point behind reigning champions and league leaders Manchester City.
Liverpool have turned Anfield into a fortress once again, as the Reds are unbeaten in 19 home games in the Premier League. They have also won their last ten home matches in the English top-flight, having conceded just two goals in the process.
Manchester United
The Red Devils’ hopes of a top-four finish were helped this weekend by rivals Tottenham and Arsenal both dropping points. Ralf Rangnick’s team currently sit in fifth place in the table, just three points behind fourth-place Tottenham. An unlikely win at Anfield would certainly lift spirits, which have been down at the men Manchester giants in recent months.
A narrow 3-2 win over struggling Norwich last time out in the Premier League courtesy of a hat-trick from Cristiano Ronaldo ended a three-game winless run in all competitions for United. That run included going out of the Champions League against Atletico Madrid.
United have been poor on their travels of late on their travels in the Premier League. The visitors have won just one of their last four away matches in the league, having suffered back-to-back away defeats at Manchester City and at Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals Everton last time out.
A lack of clean sheets has played a big part in the visitor’s recent poor away results, as United have only kept one clean sheet in their previous 10 league games on their travels.
The Red Devils have won just one of the last eight meetings between these two teams in all competitions. Their last win at Anfield was back in 2016.
Conclusion
Liverpool are in sparkling form at the minute, while United are just chugging along hoping that they can somehow claim a top-four spot. We do believe the home side will record another win at Anfield.
However, a Liverpool home win never offers much value, so instead, we are backing Liverpool half-time/full-time, which offers slightly more value. We also fancy Sadio Mane to be an anytime goalscorer, as the Senegalese international has scored four goals in as many appearances in all competitions for the Reds.
Our Tips: We are backing Liverpool half-time/full-time at odds of 11/10 and/or Sadio Mane to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 13/10. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
