Prediction and odds for the game: Real Madrid (9/4) vs Manchester City (Evens)
We are backing the draw at odds of 3/1
When: Wednesday 4 May 2022, Kick-off 20:00
Where: The Santiago Bernabeu
On Wednesday night, Real Madrid and Manchester City go head-to-head at the Santiago Bernabeu in what promises to be a highly entertaining Champions League semi-final second leg.
Real Madrid
The Spanish were confirmed as Spanish champions over the weekend after a 4-0 home win against Espanyol. With the domestic title now wrapped up, Carlo Ancelotti’s team is now free to concentrate on becoming European champions for the 14th time.
Real Madrid has not enjoyed great results in the Champions League in the last few rounds of the competition. The 4-3 defeat in the first leg of this tie at the Etihad Stadium means that Los Blancos have now suffered back-to-back defeats in the competition, having lost the second leg of the quarter-final at home against Chelsea. However, the Spanish giants qualify courtesy of an extra-time goal from Karim Benzema to edge out the Blues.
The defeat over 90 minutes against Chelsea means that Real Madrid has now won just three of their last six European games on home soil.
Manchester City
The Premier League champions maintained their hopes of retaining their crown as they swept Leeds United aside in a 4-0 win at Elland Road on Saturday evening. The victory in Yorkshire was City’s fourth straight win in all competition and saw Pep Guardiola’s team score at least three times for the fourth consecutive game.
City will believe that they can still win both the Premier League and the Champions League this season. However, they look to have a tougher road to success than title rivals Liverpool, who themselves face a trip to Spain in the last four of the Champions League, as they face Villarreal on Tuesday night.
The Citizens are unbeaten in five matches in the Champions League. That run includes defeating Real Madrid’s arch-rivals Atletico 1-0 on aggregate in the last eight of the competition.
City has an inconsistent away record in the Champions League though, having won just two of their last five European matches on their travels. However, they have recorded back-to-back clean sheets away from home in European football’s elite competition. Another clean sheet would be enough to book the Citizen’s place in the Champions League final for a second straight season.
Conclusion
The first leg was an epic encounter that will live long in the history of those that watched it. Real Madrid are European football royalty and have a special relationship with the European Cup, while everybody involved with City is desperate to win the competition for the first time in their history.
We are backing this game to produce another highly entertaining encounter. With that in mind, we are backing over 2.5 goals scored and the draw, which would be enough for City to progress to the competition’s final.
Our Tips: We are backing the draw at odds of 3/1 and/or over 2.5 goals at odds of 4/7. (All odds are taken from Bet365)
