Prediction and odds for the game: Wolves (10/1) vs Manchester City (1/4)
We are backing Kevin De Bruyne to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 7/5
When: Wednesday 11 May 2022, Kick-off 20:15
Where: Molineux Stadium
On Wednesday night, Wolves hosts Manchester City in the Premier League, as the visitors look to maintain their bid to retain their English top-flight crown.
Wolves
Bruno Lage’s team have rather gone off the boil in recent months, as the team from the Midlands heads into this clash on the back of a four-game winless run. In fact, a 2-2 draw at Chelsea last time out ended a three-game losing streak for Wolves in the Premier League. They came from two goals down to grab an equaliser deep into stoppage-time through a Conor Coady effort.
Despite fact that Wolves could still finish in the top seven of the Premier League, the home side seems to be limping over the finish line of the English top-flight campaign.
Lage’s team has been highly inconsistent at Molineux in recent months, as they have won three and lost four of their last seven home matches in the Premier League. Their recent home matches have certainly offered value for money in the entertainment stakes, though, as five of their previous six home games in the league have produced over 2.5 goals.
Manchester City
The weekend results strengthened Manchester City’s stranglehold on the English league title. The Citizens recorded a 5-0 home drubbing of Newcastle, while Tottenham held title rivals, Liverpool, to a 1-1 draw at Anfield. The results leave City three points clear of Jurgen Klopp’s team with a superior goal difference of four.
The win over Newcastle means that City are unbeaten in nine Premier League outings, having recorded seven wins in the process. It was also their fourth straight league win and saw Pep Guardiola’s team score at least three goals for a fourth consecutive Premier League game.
The reigning English champions have been strong on their travels in the Premier League, as they are unbeaten in their previous 16 away games in the English top-flight, recording 13 wins in the process.
A solid defensive record has played a key role in the Citizen’s recent good away run, as the visitors have now kept clean sheets in their last five league matches on their travels.
One negative for City is that they head into this clash with a defensive crisis, as John Stones, Ruben Dias, Kyle Walker and Nathan Ake will all miss out through injury.
Conclusion
Although Wolves rescued a draw at Chelsea, their motivation has seemed lacking in recent weeks, with securing a European place for next season seeming unlikely. City should record a win, but we are looking to the goals market for our tips.
The visitors have been prolific of late and at the centre of that is usually playmaker Kevin De Bruyne. We are backing the Belgian midfielder to be an anytime goalscorer. The other bet is for both teams to score, as City are potent in defence, but are likely to be playing veteran central midfielder Fernandinho at the back, so City may not be at their best defensively.
Our Tips: Kevin De Bruyne to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 7/5 and/or both teams to score at odds of 6/5. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
