Where: Wembley
Huddersfield Town and Nottingham Forest meet at Wembley in the Championship play-off final on Sunday afternoon. The winner claims a lucrative spot in the Premier League.
Huddersfield Town
The Terriers finished the Championship campaign in good form, finishing third place in the final standings, six points behind second-place Bournemouth.
Carlos Corberan’s team is now unbeaten in nine Championship matches, having recorded seven wins and two draws. Included in that fine recent run of form is their 2-1 aggregate win over Luton Town in the play-off semi-finals.
The Yorkshire outfit has been relatively prolific of late in the English second tier, scoring at least two goals in six of their last eight matches in the Championship.
Defender Harry Toffolo found his shooting boots at the end of the season, as the 26-year-old scored in Huddersfield’s final three games of the season.
Nottingham Forest
After a long absence from the English top-flight, the Tricky Trees are looking for a Premier League return. In fact, Forest has not played top-flight football since finishing bottom of the table back in season 1998/99. Steve Cooper’s team will be hoping that they have the chance to put the record straight next season.
Forest finishing their league campaign in fourth position after picking up just a point from their last two matches of the season against Bournemouth and Hull City.
In the season’s penultimate game, a 1-0 defeat against Bournemouth saw their chances of automatic promotion ended.
However, Forest bounced back from the disappointment of missing out on automatic promotion by beating Sheffield United on penalty kicks in the semi-final play-off after a 3-3 aggregate draw in normal and extra-time.
In recent games, highly-rated young winger Brendan Johnson has played a crucial role, as the youngster has scored in his last three Forest appearances.
The Wales international has scored 18 goals this season, which has raised interest from elsewhere, as Everton and Newcastle are reportedly looking at adding the 21-year-old to their squads for next season. Forest winning promotion would make that less likely, however.
Conclusion
There was not much between these two sides in the final standings of the campaign. The recent head-to-head suggests it has been nip and tuck, with both teams claiming three wins each in the last six games in all competitions.
With that in mind, we believe this will be a close match, which could go all the way to extra-time and penalty kicks. Our recommendations are to back the draw and under 2.5 goals, mainly because the two teams are well matched.
Our Tips: We are backing the draw at odds of 23/10 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 8/13. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
