Prediction and odds for the game: West Ham (13/5) vs Tottenham (19/20)
We are backing the away win
When: Wednesday 31 August 2022, Kick-off 19:45
Where: The London Stadium
On Wednesday night, West host Tottenham at the London Stadium in a capital derby in the Premier League.
West Ham
David Moyes’ team picked up their first Premier League win of the season last time out by recording a 1-0 win at Aston Villa. The win was much-needed as the Hammers had lost their opening three Premier League matches against Manchester City, Nottingham Forest and Brighton. The Hammers did win both of their games against Danish team Viborg to qualify for the group stage of the Europa Conference League.
The win at Villa ended a five-game winless run in the Premier League dating back to last season. The game also saw the Irons score their first league goal of the campaign.
West Ham needs to start winning their home games if they are to move up the league table. The Irons have failed to win in five home matches in the English top-flight, having picked up just two draws and suffered three defeats.
The Hammers are still without Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd through injury, while Aaron Cresswell, Ben Johnson, and Craig Dawson.
Tottenham
The visitors head into this clash on the back of a four-game unbeaten run in the English top-flight, having taken ten points from their Premier League games this season. Last time out, Antonio Conte’s team recorded a 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest.
Tottenham’s good form dates back to last season, as the visitors are now unbeaten in ten games in the Premier League, recording seven wins and three draws. Their prolific strike force has been a big part of that unbeaten run. Conte’s team has now scored at least two goals in four of their last five league outings.
Star striker Harry Kane has started the new Premier League campaign in good form, scoring four times in the English top-flight this season. That could have been even better, but he saw a penalty kick saved by Forest goalkeeper Dean Henderson last time out.
Spurs have been a tough team to beat on their travels of late in the Premier League, having gone seven league matches without defeat away from home.
Summer signing Richarlison made an impact from the bench for Spurs last time out. The former Everton could well make his full debut in this clash. Cristian Romero, Bryan Gil, Lucas Moura, and Oliver Skipp are all fitness doubts.
Conclusion
West Ham will be buoyed by their first league win of the season. However, as their early season results suggest, their confidence is fragile at the moment. We are backing Spurs to record a narrow victory. We do believe this game will be fairly high-scoring, so we are also backing over 2.5 goals scored.
Our Tips: We are backing a Tottenham win at odds of 19/20 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 8/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
