Prediction and odds for the game: Everton (7/1) vs Liverpool (4/11)
We are backing Roberto Firmino to be anytime goalscorer at odds of 6/4
When: Saturday 3 September 2022 Kick-off 12:30
Where: Goodison Park
In the Premier League’s early kick-off on Saturday, Everton and Liverpool meet at Goodison Park in what could be yet another fiery Merseyside derby.
Everton
The Toffees are winless after five Premier League matches this season. However, there have been some positives to take from their three straight draws against Nottingham Forest, Brentford, and Leeds. In the latter match, the Toffees saw a winning goal controversially disallowed.
They have also looked far more solid in defence this season. However, that record of one win in their last nine league matches is a major concern for everybody involved with the men from Merseyside.
Everton’s recent home record is not great, as they have won just one of their last four league matches at Goodison Park. Frank Lampard’s team has also kept just one clean sheet in their previous six league matches on home soil.
The Toffees will have new signing Neal Maupay available for this clash. The Frenchman is likely to start up front. They also have a long injury list. Yerry Mina, Ben Godfrey, Mason Holgate, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Andros Townsend and Dominic Calvert-Lewin will all miss this clash through.
Liverpool
Jurgen Klopp’s team recorded a 98th-minute 2-1 win over Newcastle last time out, with youngster Fabio Carvalho grabbing the winning goal. The result means that the visitors have now recorded back-to-back victories, even if they were not at their best against the Magpies.
Liverpool’s most recent league games have certainly offered entertainment value, as eight of their last nine games have produced over 2.5 goals.
Despite the Reds poor start to the Premier League campaign, failing to win their first three matches, Klopp’s team has still won five of their last eight matches in the English top flight. They have also scored at least two goals in six of their last eight league games.
Liverpool’s recent away record in the English top-flight of late has been slightly inconsistent, as the visitors have won three of their last six away games in the Premier League. A 2-1 defeat at north west rivals Manchester United in their last away game ended a ten-game unbeaten run on their travels in the Premier League.
The Reds can welcome back Darwin Nunez from suspension. However, he may start the game on the bench due to Roberto Firmino’s recent form. Ibrahima Konate, Thiago and Naby Keita are expected to miss out through injury. Captain Jordan Henderson is also a major fitness doubt.
Conclusion
Although Liverpool are big favourites for this clash, we expect a relatively tight encounter. The first bet we are backing is under 2.5 goals. The Toffees’ defence look more solid with the experienced pair of Conor Coady and James Tarkowski in the centre of the backline.
The other bet we are backing is for Roberto Firmino to be an anytime goalscorer. The Brazilian international has been in top form, and we believe he could be the one to get past the robust Everton’s defence.
Our Tips: We are backing under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 6/4 and/or Roberto Firmino to be an anytime goalscorer at the same odds. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
