Prediction and odds for the game: Liverpool (11/20) vs Ajax (4/1)
We are backing the draw at odds of 15/4
When: Tuesday 13 September 2022, Kick-off 20:00
Where: Anfield
On Tuesday night, Liverpool host Ajax at Anfield in Group A of the Champions League, as the home team look to recover from a woeful result in gameweek one.
Liverpool
The Merseysiders didn’t play at the weekend due to the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ll on Thursday. The Reds last outing was in the Champions League, which resulted in a 4-1 hammering against Napoli in Naples. The defeat in Italy means that Jurgen Klopp’s team has won just two of their seven matches in all competitions this season.
Despite making the final of the competition last season, Liverpool has lost three of their last seven matches in the Champions League.
Surprisingly, the men from Merseyside have also won one of their previous three home matches in the Champions League. Their recent home games in European football’s elite competition have been low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in five of their six games.
Liverpool look set to be without Ibrahima Konate, Jordan Henderson, Curtis Jones, Calvin Ramsey, and Andy Robertson through injury. Youngster Fabio Carvalho is also a fitness doubt.
Ajax
The Dutch side has kicked off the campaign in fine fashion. The visitors have recorded seven straight wins in all competitions. A 5-0 win over Heerenveen last time out means that Alfred Schreuder’s team has now scored at least four goals in their last three outings in all competitions.
That winning run included a comprehensive 4-0 win over Rangers on gameday one. The victory over the Scottish giants was their seventh in nine matches in the Champions League.
The game once again showed Ajax’s attacking prowess, as the Dutch outfit has now scored at least two goals in eight of their last nine matches in Europe’s elite competition.
Ajax head to Merseyside on the back of a four-game unbeaten on their travels in the Champions League, having recorded three wins in the process. The Dutch side has been prolific of late on their travels in the Champions League, scoring at least two goals in all four of their recent undefeated away matches.
The visitors have fitness doubts over defensive pair Calvin Bassey and Owen Wijndal. Alfred Schreuder may decide to field an unchanged starting line-up from the win against Rangers.
Conclusion
Liverpool are going through a tricky run of form and have certainly not been at their best of late. Ajax is in red hot form and will travel to Anfield in confident mood. We can see this being a close but high-scoring encounter.
For our first tip, we are backing the draw. Despite Liverpool’s relatively unconvincing recent form, they are tough to beat on home soil. We are also backing over 3.5 goals scored, as this could be a high-scoring encounter.
Our Tips: We are backing the draw at 15/4 and/or over 3.5 goals scored at odds of 10/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
