BVB heads into this clash in a confident mood after a 4-1 victory at Sevilla in the Champions League in midweek. The victory was needed, as Dortmund had headed into the clash on the back of a 3-2 defeat against Koln.

In fact, Edin Terzic’s team have lost two of their last three matches in the Bundesliga. Despite their relatively poor recent league form, BVB are still fourth-place in the table and just two points adrift of surprise early pace setters Union Berlin.

Most of Dortmund’s problems in recent weeks have come on their travels, as they have a solid recent home record, winning four of their last five Bundesliga games on home soil. Somewhat uncharacteristically, Dortmund’s recent home matches in the German top-flight have been low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in three of their last four home games. The fact that BVB has kept clean sheets in three of their previous four league games on home soil has been a big factor in those low-scoring clashes.

Bayern Munich

After a brief spell of poor form by their ridiculously high standards, the reigning champions have returned to form with a vengeance in their last two matches. Bayern followed up their 4-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen last Friday with a 5-0 hammering of Czechia outfit Viktoria Plzen in the midweek in the Champions League.

The victory over Leverkusen ended a run of four games without a win for Bayern in the Bundesliga. In contrast, the victory over Plzen means that Bayern has scored at least two goals in five of their previous six matches in all competitions.

Julian Nagelsmann’s team is now third-place in the Bundesliga table, only ahead of Dortmund, courtesy of a superior goal difference. Bayern’s current form is certainly ominous when it comes to returning to the summit of the German top-flight.

Forwards Leroy Sane and Sadio Mane scored in both of Bayern’s recent victories and will be looking to add to their goals tally in this clash.

Conclusion

Dortmund’s recent form has been hot and cold, but they are usually strong on home soil. Bayern Munich seems to have hit form at the right time for this clash against their seemingly perennial arch-rivals.

Bayern has won the last eight games between these two teams, so the fixture’s recent history is on the Bavarians’ side. We believe they could well come out on top of this game too.
