Prediction and odds for the game: Everton (5/2) vs Manchester United (21/20)
We are backing under 2.5 goals scored at evens
When: Sunday, 09 October 2022, Kick-off 19:00
Where: Goodison Park
On Sunday night, Everton and Manchester United go head-to-head at Goodison Park as the home team looks to continue a solid recent run of form.
Everton
The Toffees head into this game on the back of a seven-game unbeaten run in all competitions, six of which have been in the Premier League. In their last league game, Frank Lampard’s team recorded a second consecutive victory, as Dwight McNeil’s goal secured a 2-1 win at Southampton.
Despite conceding at St Marys, the Toffees still has the most solid defence in the English top-flight, with a total of seven goals conceded. Their defensive displays are in stark contrast to last season’s effort efforts at the back.
Everton’s recent home record in the Premier League has been inconsistent of late. However, they head into this clash on the back of just one defeat in their previous five league matches on home soil. Their home matches this season have been low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in all four of the Toffees Premier League outings.
Frank Lampard’s team are still without the likes of Mason Holgate, Yerry Mina, Ben Godfrey, Andros Townsend, and Nathan Patterson. However, striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has returned to training but is only likely to make the substitute bench.
Manchester United
The Red Devils bounced back from their 6-3 humbling at neighbours Manchester City last weekend by scraping past Omonia Nicosia 3-2 in the Europa League. The victory saw Erik ten Hag’s team score at least two goals for the fourth time in five matches in all competitions.
French forward Anthony Martial scored in the victory in Cyprus, which means he has not only scored in back-to-back games but also three times in his last two appearances for the Red Devils. Everton is also Martial’s favourite opponent, as he has scored more goals against the Toffees than any other opponent.
United have won two of their last three away matches in the Premier League. However, those two wins are also their only away victories in ten league games on their travels, and they have lost their eight matches in the run, including suffering a 1-0 defeat at Goodison Park last term.
United could welcome back Raphael Varane from injury. However, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Donny van de Beek and Harry Maguire all look set to miss out through injury.
Conclusion
Everton is a team on the up at the moment, as they are hard to beat and score against. Their home record has improved of late, and the Goodison crowd will be a factor in this clash. United have been inconsistent at times this season, and this should be a test of character.
The two bets we are backing are under 2.5 goals, simply because of Everton’s new-found defensive solidity. The other bet we are backing is the draw, as the Toffee’s current cannot be underestimated but may not have enough to take maximum points.
Our Tips: We are backing the draw at evens and/or the draw at odds of 5/2. (All odds are taken from Bet365)
