We’re backing Draw/Liverpool (HT/FT) at 8/1
When: Thursday, 22nd December 2022 – 8pm KO (GMT)
Where: Etihad Stadium
Old rivals Manchester City and Liverpool will meet once again this week as they collide in the fourth round of the League Cup.
Manchester City
Manchester City have served as the kings of English football for quite a while now and as long as Pep Guardiola is still the main man in charge, it’s hard to picture a world in which they let go of that power. As is the case every season, they’re still competing on four different fronts – and while you’d think their fanbase may get tired of the success, we’d argue this is only just the beginning of their dynasty.
Four wins on the trot prior to the international break over Leicester, Sevilla, Fulham and Chelsea helped to establish them as a force once more, only for a humbling loss to Brentford to bring them crashing back down to earth. They beat Girona in a friendly but if they want to keep their incredible League Cup run going, they need to start mixing it up, especially after the World Cup.
Liverpool
Liverpool Football Club is an institution on Merseyside but unfortunately, in recent times, they haven’t been living up to their end of the bargain – which is to win, and do so consistently. Jurgen Klopp knows and understands that the squad needs to evolve and with the January transfer window being right around the corner, now is the time for the Reds to start changing with the times after years of joy.
After beating Napoli and Tottenham in the space of just five days, Liverpool had to dig deep in order to edge past Derby on penalties in the last round of the cup. They got past Southampton in their last game before the winter break and in their two friendlies last week, they went one for one as they were beaten by Lyon before tearing through AC Milan to set themselves up for this return.
Conclusion
While we do believe both sides will have some rotations that allow second string players to shine, we still expect this to be a barnburner of an encounter at the Etihad.
We believe City will take the lead off the back of what is bound to be a rowdy crowd but once Liverpool get a foothold in the game, they’ll start to take over. After an equaliser just before half time, they’ll start to run away with it before registering a somewhat surprising 3-1 win that ensures they are the ones who have their name in the hat for the quarter-final draw – which is set to take place after this game.
Our tips (all taken from bet365): Draw/Liverpool (HT/FT) at 8/1 + over 2.5 goals at 4/7
