We’re backing Tottenham/Tottenham (HT/FT) at 5/2
When: Monday, 23rd January 2023 – 8pm KO (GMT)
Where: Craven Cottage
Fulham will play host to Tottenham Hotspur in the capital on Monday night in a big Premier League clash for both clubs.
Fulham
After turning into quite the yo-yo club in recent years, Fulham fans are ecstatic to see the performances their club has been turning in so far this season. They’ve been mixing it up in the top half for the majority of the campaign, and while there’s still a long way to go, they appear to have found the kind of cohesion and style that has made them one of the most unpredictable sides to play against in the top flight.
The Cottagers started the year with a nice win over Leicester and then just a few days later, they knocked Hull out of the FA Cup. A derby day win over local rivals Chelsea soon followed, only for an unfortunate loss to follow against Newcastle.
Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur supporters can be forgiven for feeling a little bit uneasy about their current situation. They were once seen as a team capable of doing big things under Antonio Conte but in the space of just a few months, all that appears to have changed. Now, they’re at a point whereby they’ll feel fortunate just to qualify – or even be in contention for – a place in the Champions League next season.
Spurs lost to Aston Villa to start the new year, only to rebound with a 4-0 demolition of Crystal Palace. It took a big effort to get past Portsmouth in the FA Cup, and then in the North London derby, they fell to a 2-0 loss. Then, in their last outing, they lost 4-2 to Manchester City after a strong first half.
Conclusion
Tottenham Hotspur will do well to hold off Fulham, backed by a strong crowd, for an extended period of time. However, after a nervy first 15 or 20 minutes, we expect to see the visitors take the lead. From there, it’ll be a fairly dull affair with Fulham being unable to exploit Tottenham down the flank.
The second half will be more of the same with Spurs coming close to threatening on the counter, only to fall short of the mark. They’ll be able to hold onto their advantage but that probably isn’t saying much given where they should be aiming, but at the end of the night, they’ll get the three points they came for.
From there, Antonio Conte has some serious work to do if he really wants to get this team into a position whereby they can challenge for a place in the Champions League next season.
Our tips (all taken from bet365): Tottenham/Tottenham (HT/FT) at 5/2 + under 2.5 goals at 6/5
