Manchester United will collide with Nottingham Forest this week in the second leg of their League Cup semi-final.
Manchester United
Manchester United supporters are ready to take the next step. Of course, it’s not been long since they took their last one, but either way, things are looking up. Erik ten Hag feels like the right man to take this club forward and although it hasn’t always been easy, the Red Devils are beginning to look like a cohesive unit, which hasn’t consistently been the case since back in the days of Sir Alex Ferguson.
The boys from the north were firing on all cylinders last week in the first leg. They tore through their relegation-threatened foes with ruthless aggression, securing a 3-0 win that has them with more than one foot in the final. There’s something so easy about the manner in which they’re picking up wins and even though that may not scare some of the big boys, it definitely showcases their ability to win trophies again.
Nottingham Forest
After a frustrating start to their first season back in the big time, Nottingham Forest are beginning to settle into things. Their life back in the top flight hasn’t been simple but after persevering with Steve Cooper, they appear to be getting results. Many mocked their initial transfer strategy but up to this point, it certainly looks as if they are veering away from the relegation zone – at least, for the time being.
One of the biggest issues for Forest last week in the first leg was that they weren’t able to get their game going, even though they had bright spots. They put the ball in the back of the net only for it to be ruled offside, and while the fans tried their hardest to create an intimidating atmosphere, United just didn’t care. They had the kind of lethal edge you need at this level whereas Forest are still learning to find it.
Conclusion
This is going to be a fun affair but the key for Forest will be getting out in front early. Alas, we aren’t so sure they’ll be able to do that, especially given that the Red Devils know they aren’t conceding many at the back right now.
We’ll head into half time at 0-0 and even though we do expect Forest to get themselves on the scoresheet, it won’t matter. United will score twice to win the game and take home a 5-1 aggregate success, but more importantly, they’ll book a one way ticket to Wembley for the final.
Our tips (all taken from bet365): Draw/Man United (HT/FT) at 3/1 + over 2.5 goals at 3/4
