A shock story has emerged this morning that Lionel Messi could be returning to Barcelona, only two years after he left for Paris Saint-Germain.
As reported in SPORT in Spain, the Barcelona dressing room are becoming increasingly confident that the ex-Barca club captain and legend will be returning to the Nou Camp in the summer.
Lionel Messi to return to Barcelona?
Messi, 35, was roundly whistled and jeered by his own fans before Paris Saint-Germain’s 1-0 home defeat to Olympique Lyonnais and is reportedly keen to make an iconic return to his old club, with his current contract at the Parisians running out at the end of the season.
This would allow FC Barcelona to sign Messi on a free transfer on 1 July, however, it remains to be seen how the Catalan giants will be able to afford the Argentinian’s high wages, which was the main reason he left for the Parc de Princes in the first place, whilst also acting within Financial Fair Play regulations. It has, however, also been reported that Barcelona President Joan Laporta will today meet with La Liga today to put these fears to bed.
