AS Roma are reportedly edging closer toward agreeing to a new deal with England international Chris Smalling, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The former Man United star announced the news after Roma’s Europa League quarterfinal success against Feyenoord, as he claimed that the ‘full agreement’ is close.
AS Roma fight off competition to tie down Smalling
Smalling has been a star performer throughout the season for the Italian giants, and has played a key role in the success achieved by Jose Mourinho’s side so far this term.
However, there were reports indicating that the 33-year-old may be ready to move on at the end of the season, with Inter Milan among the teams that were monitoring the situation.
Since joining Roma after a nine-year stay at Old Trafford, the English defender has made 138 appearances across all competitions for the Serie A giants. Smalling also played a key role in Roma’s historic Europa Conference League success last season, and was named in the Team of the Season.
