Tottenham Hotspur fullback Emerson Royal wants to leave the club in the summer, it has emerged.
According to his agent, Royal wants to “take a leap and go to a team that fights for titles”. The former Real Betis and Barcelona right-back moved to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last summer for approximately $28m and was initially seen as a figure of fun, seeming uncomfortable dealing with the pace of the Premier League in his first season at the club.
However this season, the Brazilian seems to have changed the minds of some Spurs fans, scoring in the Premier League against Manchester City and London rivals West Ham, in what has been a disappointing campaign for the Lilywhites. The fullback has made new signing Pedro Porro have to wait for his place in the first team, seemingly only displacing Royal due to a knee injury that has kept the 24-year-old out of action for the last four weeks.
But now the fullback is keen to make a move away from Tottenham with agent and father, Emerson Zulu, attempting to link his client with a surprise move to Real Madrid whilst talking to the Brazilian Charla Podcast.
🎙️ Emerson’s agent: “There is a great possibility that Emerson will leave Tottenham. We believe it’s time for him to take a bigger leap and go to a team that fights for titles. A giant. I think he fits Real Madrid.”
