Tottenham Hotspur are set to sack their interim head coach Cristian Stellini.
According to reports by Dan Kilpatrick in the London Evening Standard this morning, Stellini’s position is in serious peril after Tottenham’s embarrassing capitulation to the hands of Newcastle United 6-1 at St James’ Park yesterday.

Stellini arrived as Antonio Conte’s assistant at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in 2021 and in his first season helped guide Spurs to a fourth spot in the Premier League, clinching Champions League football. In February, Stellini took charge of the team on a temporary basis as Conte recovered from a gallbladder operation and oversaw wins at home against Manchester City, West Ham United, and Chelsea.

Conte was then sacked in March following a downturn in Spurs’ results and Stellini was put in temporary charge of the team until the end of the season.
However, Stellini’s second spell as caretaker manager has been less successful, only managing one win in four matches. Yesterday’s 6-1 humiliation to Newcastle United was seen as a new low point for Spurs, however, with Stellini apologizing for his team’s performance after the match.
If Stellini is to leave his post, his replacement is likely to be ex-Tottenham player Ryan Mason, who oversaw Spurs’ defeat in the 2021 League Cup final defeat to Manchester City, until the end of the season.
