Manchester City will offer club captain Ilkay Gundogan a new contract worth almost $10m to keep the midfielder for one more season.
It has been hardly a secret that the Catalan giants Barcelona want to sign the German, 32, on a free transfer when his contract at City runs out at the end of the season and it is believed they are willing to offer Gundogan a pay rise and the two-year contract he seeks.
However, City remain confident that they can tempt their club captain into staying at the club on a one-year contract with the German reportedly having doubts about promises made to him by Barcelona’s President Joan Laporta due to the club’s financial issues according to the Spanish journalist Joan Fontes.

Man City transfer news: Ilkay Gundogan offered a new contract at the Etihad Stadium
Gundogan has remained an integral part of City’s success this season and will be a hard man to replace if he is to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer, regularly starting in City’s hardest matches and starring in manager Pep Guardiola’s new 3-2-4-1 formation as the left-sided central-midfielder alongside Kevin De Bruyne at the heart of the midfield.
