Man United and Liverpool are set to battle in the summer transfer window, with both Premier League giants chasing Ajax defender Jurrien Timber, according to Sky Germany.

Ajax could be prepared to offload the 21-year-old defender this summer, but only if their $50 million asking price is matched.

Man United have monitored the Dutch defender since the arrival of Erik ten Hag, with the current Red Devils boss having worked with the central defender during his time in Amsterdam.

Liverpool will also be looking for defensive reinforcements this summer, with Joe Gomez and Joel Matip both likely to depart Anfield.

Timber is reportedly weighing up his options ahead of the summer, and he is set to join a ‘top club’ when the transfer window opens.

The 21-year-old has played 30 times for Ajax in the Eredivisie this season, scoring once and making two assists. Timber has also represented the Netherlands on 15 occasions, and was named in the nation’s squad for both EURO 2020 and the 2022 World Cup.
