Man United will reportedly renew their interest in Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong this summer.
That’s according to a recent report from the Express, who claims the Red Devils, who have wanted De Jong since Erik Ten Hag’s arrival, are back in the running to sign him during this summer’s transfer window.
Manchester United made the 25-year-old their top summer target last year but ultimately turned to signing Casemiro from Real Madrid after coming up short in their pursuit of Barcelona’s number 21.
Man United to revist Frenkie De Jong transfer
Ten Hag made De Jong, a player he is familiar with following their time together at Ajax, his top summer transfer target but a deal with Barcelona couldn’t be agreed with the midfielder reluctant to play for a team competing outside of the Champions League.
However, these latest reports claim Barcelona will once again be willing to allow the former Ajax playmaker to leave the club this summer as they look to gather finances from departures in order to finalize a sensational return to the club for club legend Lionel Messi.
As for Manchester United, this summer will almost certainly see them prioritize a new striker, but with a new midfielder also high on the wishlist, De Jong is once again expected to become the focal point of a transfer tug-o-war.
During his four years at the Nou Camp, De Jong, who has three years left on his deal, has directly contributed to 34 goals in 178 games in all competitions.
