European giants Arsenal and Barcelona are set to fight it out for Man City’s attacking full-back Joao Cancelo this summer as his time at the Etihad Stadium looks to be up.
Cancelo, 28, cost Man City $34.2m plus Brazilian full-back Danilo in 2019 and after a difficult first season in England, became one of Pep Guardiola’s star players during back-to-back Premier League title-winning seasons for the Citizens.
Cancelo’s form took a significant dip in the first half of this season, however, and Guardiola sent the Portuguese on loan to Bayern Munich in January, at first failing to make the grade in Bavaria.
Joao Cancelo linked with Arsenal and Barcelona
Recent good performances have seen the attack minded defender regain his place at left-back for Thomas Tuchel with Bayern currently one point clear at the top of the Bundesliga from Borussia Dortmund with three matches left.
And according to 90 Min writers Sean Walsh and Graeme Bailey, Arsenal and Barcelona hold a strong interest in Cancelo who is believed to have no future left at Man City. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has already worked with the Portuguese ace during his time as assistant manager under Guardiola at City whilst Bayern are also keen to keep Cancelo past his loan spell this summer, although the Bavarians have previously gawped at the $76.5m asking price set by the Citizens.
