The latest reports have indicated that the Reds could be set to match the $60 million release clause in the Uruguayan’s contract when the transfer window opens.
Liverpool set transfer sights on Bellingham alternative
Jurgen Klopp’s side remain in the market for a midfielder this summer after refusing to meet the release clause for Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham.
Liverpool have identified Sporting’s Manuel Ugarte as their preferred alternative. The Uruguayan midfielder has a $60 million release clause in his deal, and has impressed throughout the 2022-23 season.
Ugarte is a solid defensive midfielder, having played a key role in 29 Sporting Lisbon league fixtures, as well as all six group stage matches in the Champions League.
Ugarte has also represented his native Uruguay on eight occasions, but failed to get onto the pitch at the 2022 World Cup.
