Man United defenders Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones will be released by the club at the end of the season.
Tuanzebe, 25, has spent the second half of this season at Championship side Stoke City but injuries have limited the England under-21 international to only five appearances for the Potters. The once highly-rated central defender has seen his career stall somewhat in the last couple of years since becoming the youngest player to captain United since 1985 and, according to Manchester Evening News writer Samuel Luckhurst, Tuanzebe will not have his contract renewed by the Red Devils.
Man United veteran set to leave Old Trafford after 11 years at the club
As for Jones, the Old Trafford exit has been a long time coming with the former England international only making two starts in three seasons for the Red Devils. If Tuanzebe’s career has stalled slightly, Jones’ has come to a complete standstill with back and knee injuries effectively ending his time at Old Trafford after 11 years at the club which saw him win the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the Europa League.
In fact, since earning a new contract in February 2019, Jones has only started 16 times for United but due to injuries and poor first-half displays, the defender was substituted at halftime in five of them.
