Newcastle United could be dealt a major summer transfer blow after recent reports claim Manchester City have joined the race to sign Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney.
Eddie Howe has tracked the Scottish full-back for several months ahead of what is expected to be a blockbuster window for the newly taken-over Geordies.
Although they’re now considered the sport’s richest club, Newcastle United’s transfer policy has so far seen the club make shrewd and sensible signings. However, with Champions League football looking likely next season, as well as the pressure of playing in two domestic cup competitions and of course, the Premier League, more high-profile additions are expected to arrive at St James’ Park.
And with Tierney relatively out of favor at the Emirates Stadium following Oleksandr Zinchenko’s arrival from Manchester City last summer, the end of the season looks to be the time the former Celtic man will move on in search of more first-team minutes.

However, despite being one of the Magpies’ top targets, according to a recent report from Football Transfers, Pep Guardiola is looking to scupper any plans the northeast giants had of signing Arsenal’s number three.
And that is because Manchester City are believed to have held talks with their Premier League rivals over the possibility of including outcasted full-back Joao Cancelo in a deal to bring Tierney to the Etihad Stadium in time for next season.
Currently out on loan with Bayern Munich after falling out with Guardiola, Cancelo, who had a $76m buy clause included in his switch, is not expected to join the German side in a permanent deal, thus paving the way for a return to England.
Since joining the Cityzens from Juventus in 2019, Cancelo, who has four years left on his deal with Manchester City, has gone on to feature in 154 matches across all competitions.
