Brentford have stepped up their interest in Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres, according to TalkSport.
The Bees have needed to re-evaluate their transfer plans following the long ban handed to Ivan Toney for FA betting breaches, and the Coventry star appears to top their list.
Brentford eye Gyokeres transfer to replace Toney
Brentford have been forced to reassess their transfer plans for the summer window, as they will need to find a replacement for Toney, who will be unavailable for selection until next year.
Gyokeres is their preferred choice at this stage, as the Bees have monitored the Sky Blues star for the past couple of seasons. The Swedish international has enjoyed another excellent campaign this term, as he has netted 21 goals and registered eleven assists in 48 Championship matches.
However, the Bees could face a fight to secure the signing, with Wolves and Everton among the other clubs interested in the 24-year-old. Any decision over the Swede’s future is likely to be made after Coventry’s playoff final date against Luton on May 27.
