It promises to be a busy summer off the field for Napoli this year, and fresh uncertainty has arisen over the future of Luciano Spalletti this week.
It has been reported by MundoDeportivo that the Serie A champions could target Luis Enrique to replace the Italian.
The club are bracing themselves for Spalletti’s departure as the head coach has clashed with president Aurelio De Laurentiis. The Italian revealed after Sunday’s 3-1 win over Inter Milan that a decision has already been made.
Enrique lined up to replace Spalletti at Napoli
Growing reports have been circulating over recent weeks that Spalletti could be set to leave Napoli this summer, despite leading the club to their first Serie A title in over 30 years.
Club officials have already drawn up a shortlist, with former Spain boss Enrique among their preferred options. Enrique’s previous job was in charge of the Spanish national team, but they exited the 2022 World Cup at the round of 16 stage.
However, the Spaniard is keen to return to club soccer after enjoying a glittering three-year stay at Barcelona. During his time at the Nou Camp, he led the club to a treble in the 2014-15 season, and La Liga and Copa del Rey tites in 2015-16.
