Bayern Munich goalkeeper Yann Sommer wants to leave the club this summer now that captain Manuel Neuer has returned from injury.
The Swiss understudy has stepped in between the sticks at Bayern since signing in January from Borussia Monchengladbach, for whom he had been the number-one keeper for nine years.
Swiss number one Yann Sommer set to leave Allianz Arena
Despite signing with the Bavarians until the summer of 2025, it is being reported in the German newspaper BILD that Sommer does not want to stay and fight for his place at the Allianz Arena in the knowledge that as club captain and a mainstay in the side for over a decade, Neuer will almost certainly retain his place once fully fit.
Neuer has finally recovered since suffering a broken leg during a post-World Cup ski trip with his family in Bavaria which ruled him out of action until the end of the season.
And at 34 years of age, the Swiss goalkeeper wants to secure regular first-team club football to ensure his place on the plane for next year’s European Championships, which are set to take place in Germany.
