New Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has identified Brighton and Hove pair Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo to help bolster his midfield this summer.
The experienced Argentinian head coach has been free reign by owner Todd Boehly to come up with a shortlist of targets that he believes will propel Chelsea closer to the top of the league next season after an extremely disappointing campaign.
Brighton pair on Mauricio Pochettino’s summer wishlist
According to The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg, Mac Allister, who is still deemed Liverpool-bound at this stage, and Caicedo are on the same list that includes Southampton’s Romeo Lavia and Sporting Lisbon’s Manuel Ugarte.
Boehly’s transfer outlay is well over $600m so far but in order to convince an elite-level manager like Pochettino to move to Stamford Bridge, assurances will have had to have been made, including a transfer budget for a tired-looking midfield.
And with Jorginho departing for North London rivals in January, and Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic expected to be sold this summer, Pochettino will be asking the American for funds to afford more than just one midfield option.
