The World Cup winner and seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is set to be out of contract at the end of the season after a tumultuous conclusion to his time in the French capital which saw him internally fined and momentarily banned from PSG’s first team after going on a personal trip to Saudi Arabia without the club’s permission.

Messi is set to turn 36 this month and with it being likely that the former Barca star only has up to two seasons left at the top level, time will tell if the sacrifices the Catalans have taken to get a deal over the line have been worth it.
