Liverpool are close to completing the signing of Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister with a deal expected to be confirmed next week.
The 24-year-old has had an outstanding season, playing a starring role in his country’s World Cup victory in Qatar last winter, and was a major part of a Brighton side that qualified for European football for the first time in the club’s history.
Premier League giants swoop for Argentinian international after superb season
Mac Allister left Brighton’s final match of the season at Villa Park in tears as he appeared to say goodbye to the traveling Seagulls fans.
Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi has been far from coy about Mac Allister and teammate Moises Caicedo’s current situation, saying after Sunday’s match, “I think it can be the last game for Alexis and Moises. I am really sorry because they are two great people and two great players but the policy of Brighton is like this.
And according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Mac Allister is close to moving to Liverpool, with the fee set to be way less than the $80m figure first touted.
Mac Allister to Liverpool will cost way less than £65/70m, as said yesterday. Fixed amount to sign him from Brighton is not that high. 🔴🇦🇷 #LFC

The good news regarding Mac Allister is likely to soften the blow for Reds fans who will have been disappointed to discover that Liverpool target Mason Mount has agreed personal terms with bitter rivals Manchester United today, according to reports.
