Former Arsenal legend and Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira is interested in taking the vacant USMNT head-coaching role.
The 46-year-old has been out of work since being sacked by The Eagles in March following Palace’s 1-0 defeat to bitter rivals Brighton and Hove Albion.
Patrick Vieira on shortlist for the US head coach role
As reported yesterday, Vieira is on a 10-man shortlist to take over as the new permanent head coach which also includes LAFC head coach Steve Cherundolo and Viera’s former club and international teammate Thierry Henry.
And according to ESPN’s Julien Laurens, Vieira is keen on the challenge to take over the job last held full-time by Gregg Berhalter.
Vieira has already coached in the United States before, for MLS side New York City FC between January 2016 and June 2018 before leaving for Ligue 1 side Nice. During his spell with The Bronx Blues, Vieira improved the side’s league position year-on-year, taking NYCFC from 17th when he took over to fourth in the combined MLS standings in 2016 and then to second in 2017.
