Manchester City are close to completing the $40m signing of Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic.
The 29-year-old reportedly wants to make the move as quickly as possible as he prepares for Croatia’s UEFA Nations League final against Spain on Sunday in Rotterdam.

Kovacic has continued to impress on national duty during a disappointing league campaign at Stamford Bridge, playing 85 minutes in his country’s 4-2 extra-time win over The Netherlands on Wednesday night.
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, City are racing towards reaching a conclusion for the move with personal terms already being wrapped up with the Croatian a week and a half ago.

Kovacic will be seen as a long-term replacement for club captain Ilkay Gundogan, whose future at City looks now over with the German set to be out of contract at the end of the month as head coach Pep Guardiola begins his summer reshuffle.
