Newcastle United look set to step up their chase for a new goalkeeper this summer, as they are reportedly monitoring Josh Griffiths.

The Magpies are in the market for a second choice goalkeeper, as it seems likely that Karl Darlow will depart the club on a permanent deal this summer, with Middlesbrough interested.

Griffiths is a goalkeeper that Dan Ashworth has followed for an extended period, as the Newcastle football director previously watched the England U21 international closely during his time at West Brom.

The 21-year-old broke into the Baggies team toward the end of last season, and the Black Country club could be forced to sell the goalkeeper this summer due to financial issues at the Hawthorns.

The Sun has claimed that Griffiths is the preferred signing at Newcastle, as the club look set to bring in a new goalkeeper when Darlow departs this summer.
