Blues confirm long-awaited signing of Christopher Nkunku
The news was confirmed earlier today on Chelsea’s official club website, for whom Nkunku said of his move, “I am incredibly happy — a big effort was made to bring me to the club, I wanna show Chelsea supporters what I can do on the pitch.”
Nkunku moved to Leipzig in 2019 from Paris Saint-Germain, with whom he won three Ligue 1 titles. The versatile attacker can play as a number 9 or just behind the striker and is likely to replace the outgoing Kai Havertz and on-loan Joao Felix, who will return to his parent club Atletico Madrid.
Last season, Nkunku provided a fantastic 23 goals in an injury-effected season for the Red Bull-owned club which won the DFB-Pokal and finished the season in third place, qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
